Chemistry, Physics and Technology of Surface| Zusammenfassung: | The work proposed to the readers’ attention was written by M.P. Kuchera in 1998, 30 years after he accomplished the archaeological exploration of the ancient hill-forts on the middle course of the Southern Buh River. Typescript and illustrations of the article were stored in the researcher’s personal papers and were found by the colleagues of the Department of Ancient Rus and Mediaeval Archaeology after he died. This article is one of two non-published works of the author.
Discussed in the article are the hill-forts of the period from the 9th to the 11th centuries concentrated in the middle course of the Southern Buh River, which most researchers identify with the annalistic Uliches. The author analysed the features of the geomorphological and topographical position of the fortifications, their chronological and ethno-cultural affiliation, the structure of protected water supply system, the material culture’s peculiarities and the historical fate of the population of a separate historical and social tribal organism. Attached to the article is the registry of the Uliches’ hill-forts at the Southern Buh area prepared by the author. |
