Показано, як ”нова механіка“ Матісона для опису частинки зі спіном випливає (у випадку вільного руху в одній площині) лише із загальних вимог про релятивістичну інваріянтність та суттєву залежність від похідних аж до третього порядку в такому рівнянні руху, яке випливає з варіяційного принципу.
