Summary:The idea is widely spread of the ability of organisms to reproduction in geometrical progression. But it is shown on some examples that potential progression of reproduc-tion of the animals usually differs essentially from the geometrical progression and from the mathematical point of view it has no character by which the geometrical progression is determined. Reducing the potential progression of reproduction to the geometrical one we make a great mistake (in the given examples — 4.5 - 14 times), inadmissible in the science the more so, as the potential ability of organisms to reproduction is very often met with in the practice.
