Specific rank for several infraspecific taxa in the genus Pinnularia Ehrenb.
A new specific status for some taxa belonging to Pinnularia Ehrenb. is proposed, due to taxonomic inconsistencies concerning the ir current infraspecific rank. The morphological differences from their nominate varieties appear too conspicuous for assuming conspecifity.
