Резюме:The tourist-hotel complex is referred to one of the most effective sources of investment and making profit, the amount of the latter depends on the correct management of the holiday-makers" service organization. Now with the development of the hotel business in Ukraine, the problem of classification of hotels is urgent and rather complicated. The practice shows the impossibility to establish the common classification of hotels be used all over the world. Nowadays about thirty different national systems of classification exist. Though the International Tourist Organization recommends to use the 'European' type of classification of hotels according to their lay out, comfort, service, equipment and fund. This classification is considered to be one of the most widespreadly used, but not the universal one. Nowadays the Ukrainian hotel economy is characterized by very low comfort level. In accordance with the State Ail-Union Standards' order №99 of March 4,1996 the 'European' type of classification of hotels was adopted in Ukraine. The 'European' type (French basis) is a subdivision of hotels into five categories / stars in conformity with their level and quality of service, equipment and fund. The highest category is defined as five stars (*****) and the lowest as one star (*). In the State All-Union Standards tthe demands to hotels of all categories are enumerated. Therefore, knowing the category of a hotel a client receives the detailed information about the level and quality of service of the hotel he/ she is planning to stay at The hotel correspondence to a certain category plays a vital part in the clientele selection and hotel" s prestige. Government organs take the hotel" s category into consideration when distributing taxes, allocating state investments, working out the price politics in the sphere of the hotel business.
