Geofizicheskiy Zhurnal| Summary: | In the 1980s, employees of the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IGF) carried out large-scale geological and geophysical research in Guinea within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreements between the USSR and the People's Revolutionary Republic of Guinea. The main base was the CERESCOR Research Center in Conakry. The work included the creation of a gravimagnetic reference network, seismic and gravity surveys, geoelectrical sounding, and the collection of physical and geological samples. The main goal was to study the deep structure of the earth's crust and the forecast of promising deposits of mineral resources. Particular attention was paid to the Atlantic shelf, where tectonic disturbances and potential traps for hydrocarbons were detected. The work made it possible to create the first structural maps of the shelf, geophysical models, and stratigraphic columns of the region. The results of the research were summarized in a 1988 monograph, which became a significant contribution to the study of the geology of West Africa and cooperation in the scientific and technical sphere between Ukraine and Guinea. |
