Він стояв біля витоків морських геологічних досліджень НАН України, був учасником багатьох експедицій Світовим океаном, у тому числі двох навколосвітніх, і зробив значний внесок у дослідження донних відкладів та палеонтологію кайнозою. Науковець також відзначився як талановитий популяризатор науки та викладач, залишивши по собі вагому наукову спадщину та добру пам'ять серед колег. S.
