The Ukrainian shield is one of the oldest and richest structures  in the solid minerals of metallogenic provinces ofEurope. It is almost all covered with geological surveys at a scale of  1:50 000, geophysical surveys at a scale of 1:50 000 - 1:10000, arelatively dense network of profiles of the deep seismic and magneto-telluric sounding. An urgent task of the Ukrainian scientists and industrial workers to draw up a medium-sized tectonic map of the shield, which would take into account all the main results of its geological and geophysical study and modern achievements of the Earth sciences. On the Tectonic map ofUkraineat a scale of 1: 1000 000, published in 2007, such an information could not be fully reflected because of the scale of the map, as well as due to the neglect of some important results of research institutes of the NAS of Ukraine (geophysical, geochemical, petrological, geochronological etc.) In this article, the authors discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the map at a scale of 1:1 000 000 and offer their ideas on the method of preparation of the Tectonic map of the Ukrainian Shield at a scale of 1:500 000.
