 In 2013 National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine has discovered an oil field named "Academician Shpak oilfield". Significant reserves of this oil field are confined to the trap rimming the Runovshchyna salt plug that located in the central part of the Dnieper-Donets basin. The discovery testifies that resource potential of hydrocarbon prospects related to the traps sealed by salt plug or its canopy remains rather high and development of that exploration trend gives an impetus to increase hydrocarbon production in the East Ukrainian petroleum province.
