На материковому схилі Африки є 200 глибоководних (205-2479 м) нафтових і газових родовищ. Їх початкові сумарні запаси дорівнюють 3973,5 млн т нафти і 1034,6 млрд м3 природного газу на глибині від 1028 до 6118 м у кайнозойських і крейдових турбідитних пісках і пісковиках.
