 The scientific schools on the study of the Paleogene and Neogene deposits of Ukraine, initiated in the Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS of Ukraine are characterized. The attention is focused on the continuity of research generations and the preservation of the traditions of scientific schools. The main stages of development of biostratigraphical and paleontological studies from the moment of the creation of the schools to the present time are analyzed; the achievements in the study of Cenozoic deposits are presented. The role of researchers in solving of fundamental scientific problems, as well as the implemantation of scientific developments in the practice of geological survey and prospecting work are shown. Prospective directions of stratigraphic-paleontological research and ways of further integration into the international scientific community are outlined.
