Geological journal| Zusammenfassung: | The article is dedicated to the outstanding researcher of Donbass ore deposits and one of the founders of a new scientific discipline — bioeochemistry, a talented geologist of the first quarter of the twentieth century Yakov Vladimirovich Samoilov. The main stages of the scientist’s life and his achievements in the detailed study of the geology and mineralogy of the vein deposits of the Donetsk basin are considered, among which are gold, silver, mercury, lead glance, zinc blende, copper pyrite. The scientist gave characteristics of the geology and structure of ore deposits in the Nagolny Ridge of Donbass, studied phosphorites and other agronomic ores. It is emphasized that he pioneered biogeochemical studies of the conditions of formation of a number of ore minerals and sedimentary rocks in connection with the participation of microorganisms in these processes. Professor Ya.V. Samoilov, therefore, together with Academician V.I. Vernadsky, stood at the origins of a new direction in science — biogeochemistry. |
