It highlights his path in science and his role in the development of isotope geochronology and isotope geochemistry in Ukraine; in geochronological studies aimed at reconstructing the early stages of the geological history of the Ukrainian Shield; as well as in the development and implementation of advanced technologies for processing and enriching oxidized iron ores. One of the significant achievements of O.M. Ponomarenko is the solution of tasks for replenishing the mineral raw material base of Ukraine, the issues of identifying ilmenite-apatite deposits containing rare earths, vanadium and fluorine.

Стаття присвячена знаковим віхам наукового шляху видатного українського вченого, геолога-геохіміка О.М. Пономаренка. Висвітлено його шлях у науці та роль у розвитку ізотопної геохронології та ізотопної геохімії в Україні; у геохронологічних дослідженнях, спрямованих на реконструкцію ранніх етапів геологічної історії Українського щита; а також у розробці та впровадженні прогресивних технологій переробки і збагачення окислених залізних руд. Одним із вагомих досягнень О.М. Пономаренка є вирішення завдань поповнення мінерально-сировинної бази України, питань виявлення ільменіт-апатитових родовищ, що містять рідкісні землі, ванадій і фтор.
