Археозоологія — дисципліна на межі зоології, археології та палеонтології, яка вивчає діяльність людини в історичному минулому. На підставі археозоологічних досліджень можна реконструювати палеокліматичні, палеоекологічні та палеоекономічні умови давніх поселень та цілих регіонів. Стрімкий розвиток археозоології у світі ставить її в один ряд з найперспективнішими напрямами сучасної науки. Archaeozoology is a discipline at the interface of biology, archаeology and paleontology. It studies the activities of mankind in the historical past and it allows to reconstruct the features of livelihoods and economic activity of ancient people. It is possible to reconstruct paleoclimatic, paleoecological and paleoeconomic conditions of the ancient settlements and entire regions, and to obtain faunistic data on areals of species in different epochs on the basis of archaeological research. Yet another purpose of such research is identification of morphological features of animals, the extent and causes of their variation in time. The rapid development of archaeozoology in the world places it among the most promising and sought-after directions of national science.
