fulltext Физико-технические проблемы горного производства 2016, вып. 18 7 A WORD TO THE READER The history of the Institute for Physics of Mining Processes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine begins from its foundation in the year 1967 un- der the auspices of the Donetsk Physical and Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, as a part of the Laboratory of the extremely high pressure physics, which conducted fundamental researches and applied researches for satisfaction of needs of the coal mining industry of the Donbas. In the year 1976 this Laboratory was transformed into the Mines Rock Physics Division. In the year 1987, for strengthening of relations with the coal mining in- dustry, the applied Scientific Research Laboratory of dual subordination (under the supervision of the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Coal Industry of Ukraine) affiliated with the Department was founded. In the year 1992 the Mines Rock Physics Division and the Scientific Research Laboratory became the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Min- ing Operations of the Donetsk Physical and Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. The scope of performing works, complexity of current tasks, as well as energy and singlemindedness of the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine A.D. Alekseyev has resulted in a situation where in the year 2002 the Institute for Phys- ics of Mining Processes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was found. Today it may be said of the 50-year period of existence of the Institute, which specializes in the applied physics for miners. The Academic Institute conducts the fundamental researches associated with the study of mining processes, which fol- low the extraction of commercial minerals such as coal, coalmine methane, natu- ral gas, unconventional gas, ore etc. Main areas of research are coal and mines rock physics, physics of sorption processes, rock conditions management, forecast as for geological structures con- taining gas resources, and technological aspects of the physics of mining process- es. This approach sets the Institute apart from the other academic institutions, which deal with the problems of mining operations. The Institute for Physics of Mining Processes of the National Academy of Sci- ences of Ukraine was in successful operation in Donetsk up to August, 2014. Af- ter commencement of hostilities in Donbas the Institute was transferred and now it is registered at address: 2а, Simferopolska Str., Dnipropetrovsk. For the purpose of preserving the scientific potential of the Institute and mainly for protecting life and health of people, the Institute resumed its work at the new place in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine. The Institute overcomes the difficulties and remains properly functioning sci- entific institution of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which pro- vides work to 14 doctors of science and 11 candidates of sciences. The Institute has the postgraduate training program. There is a specialized academic board D Физико-технические проблемы горного производства 2016, вып. 18 8 11.184.02 in specialties: 05.15.09 – “Geotechnical and mining mechanical engi- neering” and 05.15.02 – “Underground mining activity”. Special attention is given to this issue, because the Institute focuses on the training of young Chartered Sci- entists. From 2008 onwards, the members of the Institute defended nine doctoral dissertations and eleven Candidate's dissertations, including two doctoral disserta- tions and four Candidate's dissertations after transfer of the Institute. In accordance with the new Higher Education Act of Ukraine, the Institute is planning to continue training of applicants for a higher education and postgradu- ate degree seekers on the basis of the current cooperation agreement between the National Mining University of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Institute for Physics of Mining Processes of the National Academy of Sci- ences of Ukraine. Today in accordance with the Order No. 241 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 09.03.2016, the Collections of Scientific Papers “Physi- cal and Technical Problems of Mining Operations” is included to the List of sci- entific professional editions of Ukraine in the area of engineering science. Data set forth herein pursue an aim to bring the truth about our Institution to the notice of our dear readers in contradiction to the elements of hybrid war in the form of blatant lie of the enemies of the Institute about the present-day position of the scientists, who are the true patriots of the Native Land.
