In the first part of the article the natural conditions
in which scythian time sites are spread in Seym river
basin and the geological structure of the Seym basin
are described. Reconstruction of the climatic conditions
of the Scythian time in the region, based on modern
indicators, is attempted. In the second part of the paper
the sequence in which the database of monuments
was gathered, and methods used in its analysis are described.
All the sites are divided into 6 categories according
to their type and cultural affiliation. Around
each a buffer of 5 km radius is created, adjacent sites,
which included in one category were divided by Thiessen
polygons. An analysis of topography inside the buffer is made as well. The data were presented in
form of graphs which indicated the number of cells recorded for each height. According to the predominance
of a particular type of topography, the sites were divided into three types which are further compared among
themselves. Based on the obtained data the conclusions about the type of economy at the sites and about
the extencion of the sites which were more suitable to a certain type of economy have been made.
