У статті на конкретних прикладах простежено ґенезу та сучасний стан об'єктів культурної спадщини Полтавщини. Проаналізовано причини та обставини руйнування або втрати автентичності пам'яток архітектури різних епох і архітектурних стилів. Підкреслено вплив культурної спадщини на суспільний світогляд, національну ідентифікацію та брендинг країни на міжнародній арені. Запропоновано на підставі вивчення пам'яткоохоронної політики європейських країн і США застосовувати їхні успішні практики в цій сфері для збереження і використання нерухомої культурної спадщини української нації. In the contemporary globalised world, the richness of cultural legacy of different societies plays an important role in the process of their national identification. Therefore, society, state, and international organisations focus on its preservation and actualisation. In spite of numerous declarations emphasising the need to defend the cultural heritage of Ukraine, the most visible part of it, i.e. old monuments and architectural sites continue to suffer damage caused both by natural and human factors. Poltava is well known for the variety of its cultural heritage objects, however, many of them have fallen into decay and got ruined during the last century. Baroque monuments such as the Church of the Assumption of the BVM (1686) in v. Luten’ka near Hadiach, and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the BVM (middle 18th cent.) in Poltava fell victims of the ideological struggle, poor culture and negligence of the Soviet power. The works by A. Slastyon, who had been the founder of Ukrainian architectural Modern – the initial Myrhorod SPA buildings, as well as a part of Lohvytsia Zemstvo suffered the same fate. The situation has hardly changed in the independent Ukraine: the monuments of Neoclassicism – Petrovskyi kadetskij korpus (Peter the Great Military School, 1835-1840) in Poltava, the Muraviev-Apostols’ Palace (1774-1806) in v. Khomutets near Myrhorod, and the mentioned schools continue to suffer damage, remaining in the state of deep decay. Ukrainian state and municipal powers seem merely register the situation with indifference, and the social activists are only those who look concerned and care about the sites. It is evidently necessary that from the early years the school and universities should teach young people to respect the national cultural heritage, not only to bring up conscious citizens, but also to give them a cause to be proud of the Ukrainian patrimony. В статье на конкретных примерах прослеживается генезис и современное состояние объектов культурного наследия Полтавщины. Проанализированы причины и обстоятельства, приведшие к разрушению или потере аутентичности памятников архитектуры, относящихся к разным эпохам и архитектурным стилям. Подчеркнуто влияние культурного наследия на общественное мировозрение, национальную идентификацию и брендинг страны на международной арене. Предложено использовать успешный опыт политики охраны культурного наследия европейских стран и США для сохранения и использования архитектурных памятников в Украине.
