Висвітлено узагальнюючі праці з питань підготовки науково-технічної інтелігенції вищою школою Одеси у першій третини ХХ ст. У контексті зазначеної теми розглянуто етапи становлення та розвитку двох, одних з найстаріших технічних вишів України – Одеського національного політехнічного університету (ОНПУ) і Одеського національного морського університету (ОНМУ). Встановлено, що процес зародження ОНПУ був пов'язаний з ініціативою місцевих прогресивних сил, а його спрямованість визначали регіональні чинники розвитку сфер народного господарства. На основі опублікованих та репрезентованих архівних джерел аргументовано зображено спадкоємність ОНМУ із структурними підрозділами ОНПУ, що дає підстави вважати роком зародження ОНМУ – 1918 р. Визначено основні ознаки аналізу становлення та розвитку вищої освіти водогосподарського комплексу в Україні. The article is devoted to the history of the formation and development of higher education for the training of specialists in the field of water management in Ukraine. There is t provides a historiographical analysis of Soviet and modern scientific literature on the formation and development of higher technical education in Odesa in the first third of the twentieth century. The generalizing works on the preparation of the scientific and technical intelligentsia by the Odesa High School are highlighted. The implementation of the objectives of the study allowed making significant clarifications in the picture of the development of higher education in Ukraine in the early twentieth century and making some important conclusions. In the context of this topic, the stages of the formation and development of two, one of the oldest technical universities of Ukraine – Odessa National Polytechnic University (ONPU) and Odessa National Maritime University (ONMU) are considered. It was established that the process of the origin of the ONPU was associated with the initiative of local progressive forces, and its focus was determined by regional factors in the development of spheres of the national economy. Scientific studies of modern Ukrainian researchers are characterized containing information on the history of two leading technical universities of Ukraine. The continuity of ONMU with structural divisions of ONPU is convincingly depicted on the basis of published and submitted archival sources, which gives grounds to be considered the year of birth of ONMU – 1918.
