У статті аналізуються передумови об'єднання УНР і ЗУНР; розглянуто основні етапи на шляху до об'єднання, відображено умови і наслідки підписання Акту злуки. The Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921 should be reconsidered and reexplained by new generation of historians. The important achievement of the revolutionary process of that time was the proclamation of the independent Ukrainian state. The article analyzes the preconditions for the unification of both parts of Ukraine into a common state during the period of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921. The author particularly explores on events after the proclamation of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic in Lviv. He concludes the causes of the reluctance of Galician politicians to declare a unification with the Greater Ukraine. The main stages of the unification process, the conditions of the signing of the pre-accession Agreement and its influence on the relations between the UNR and the ZUNR are considered. Also, the author describes the entire unification process in January 1919and its consequences were analyzed. As a result of the research, the author notes that the proclamation of the Unification Act became an outstanding event that contributed to the growth of the Ukrainian national consciousness, the formation of the Ukrainian political nation, its consolidation. This event marked the completion of the first stage of the struggle for the unity, and opened the possibility of development of the Ukrainian statehood.
