Розглядаються зміст дефініції «польська операція», існування «цільових груп» репресивної акції, оперативні потреби обласних управлінь НКВС, пов'язані з реалізацією оперативного наказу народного комісара внутрішніх справ СРСР М. Єжова № 00485 «Про операцію по репресуванню членів Польської військової організації (ПОВ) в СРСР». Констатується, що «польська» операція НКВС носила масштабний і багатовимірний характер та поєднувала етнічні, релігійні, соціальні компоненти. The «Polish operation» of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR was planned in advance. It is confirmed by the relevant directives from Moscow. Implementation of the operative order of the People's Commissar of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR M. Yezhov№00485 «On Operation to Repress Members of the Polish Military Organization (POV) in the USSR» became large-scale and multidimensional in nature and combined ethnic, religious and social components.The order was aimed primarily at neutralizing the so-called Polish counter-revolutionary nationalist element and spies in favour of Poland, but in the future the secret circular was extended to persons who had Soviet citizenship and Polish nationality (or simply Polish family names). The documents of the Soviet special services give reason to claim that representatives of different nationalities (Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, etc.) were arrested on the «Polish line». Selection of persons took place on the basis of agent messages, case-forms, letter cases, lists, cases of secret service staff.In total, 16 categories were identified as victims of the repressive action by state security officials in Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, including: war prisoners, deserters and legionnaires of the Polish army, defectors, political immigrants from Poland, the «clerical-nationalist element»,old Polish employees of sugar factories and other enterprises,Polish consulatesvisitors,people with family and other relationships in Poland, etc. uk Інститут історії України НАН України Краєзнавство Історія України у світлі регіональних досліджень "Польська операція" НКВС 1937–1938 рр. The «Polish operation» of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR was planned
