Description
Summary:Clause is devoted to the characteristic of glyptic of Olbia Pontica in early antique time. The glyptic include metal and stone seal-rings, stone and glass gems. Impressions of seal-rings and gems on ceramics are known. Intaglios dominate. Cameos appear in the late classical time. There are pieces executed in «east-greek» and «greek-persian» styles. The significant part of glyptic products was imported. A part of metal rings, stone and glass gems could be made by local and visiting engravers, which worked on mints, in workshops on the northern coast of Black sea. The Olbian glyptic does not differ practically from one of Bosporus, cities on the Western and East Black Sea Coast.
