Зроблено спробу визначити, за допомогою яких текстуальних засобів постколоніальна суб’єктність кидає виклик культурній, політичній, літературній, лінгвістичній гегемонії іншої культури – з тим, аби, врешті, вступити з нею в конструктивний діалог. Встановлено, що відмінною особливістю художнього тексту як особливого виду дискурсу є наявність прихованих смислів, що визначають міру впливу тексту і ступінь його художності. Приховані смисли, з одного боку, належать області свідомості, а з іншого боку, актуалізуються в матеріальній складовій тексту – мовних одиницях і способах їх з’єднання та взаємодії. Авторкою досліджено поетологічні домінанти постмодерністського бачення саме мовного простору текстів Рушді. На основі цього здійснено аналіз комплексу засобів, які описують приховані смисли в словесно- образній системі письма Салмана Рушді. На основі герменевтичного методу розкрито основні концепти та приховані смисли як компоненти ідіостилю Салмана Рушді та способи їх вираження у романі «Діти опівночі». Доведено, що творчість Салмана Рушді відносять до того типу художнього освоєння східної тематики, який вважається імпліцитним, оскільки акцент падає на глибинні, внутрішні структури іншого світовідчуття та способу життя. Transcultural modifications in postmodern American literature have beenstudied in the article. The attention is focused on the reflection of the surroundingworld through the prism of the author’s intentions in the creative work of Salman Rushdie. An attempt has been made to determine with which textual means the postcolonial subjectivity challenges the cultural, political, literary, and linguistic hegemony of another culture – in order to eventually enter into the constructive dialogue with it. It is established that the distinctive feature of the artistic text as a special type of the discourse is the presence of hidden meanings that determine the extent of the influence of the text and the degree of its artistic character. The hidden meanings, on the one hand, belong to the field of consciousness, and on the other hand, they are actualized in the material component of the text – the linguistic units and the methods of their connection and interaction. In this context, the author examines the poetic dominants of the postmodern vision of the very language space of the textsof Rushdie. The researcher analysed the complex of means that describe the hidden meanings in the verbal-figurative system of writing of Salman Rushdie. Based on the hermeneutic method, the basic concepts and hidden meanings as components of the individual style of Salman Rushdie and the ways of their expression in the novel «Children of Midnight»have been revealed. It is proved that the creative work of Salman Rushdie refers to the type of artistic development of the oriental thematics, which is considered implicit, since the emphasis falls on the deep, internal structures of another sensation of the world and the way of life. uk Інститут літератури ім.
