У статті розглядаються особливості малих епічних форм у
 доробку О. Гончара. З’ясовується специфіка жанрової природи малої
 прози письменника, розкриваються тематичні, стильові, образні
 особливості показових для творчості митця новел та оповідань,
 аналізуються зображально-виражальні засоби (портрет, пейзаж,
 деталізація, наративні форми тощо). Окрему увагу приділено
 особливостям малих форм публіцистики О. Гончара, зокрема жанру
 нарису. Акцентовано на проблемних питаннях теорії художніх та
 публіцистичних жанрів. Доведено, що особливості жанротворення й
 трансформації жанрової структури малих епічних форм у доробку
 О. Гончара обумовлювалися появою нових тем, які актуалізували національні, соціальні, морально-етичні, естетичні проблеми
 суспільства, що вимагали адекватної форми та засобів художнього втілення. Встановлено, що О. Гончар у малій прозі притримувався
 принципів реалізму, романтизму, психологізму, документалізму й орієнтувався на традиції письменства кінця ХІХ – початку ХХ ст. зі
 своєрідною оповідністю і, водночас, входив у річище європейської і світової літератур із властивим їм наративним експериментуванням. The paper exposes peculiarity of the little epic’s forms in the work by Oles
 Honchar. The specifics of the genre nature of the writer’s small prose are revealed,
 the thematic, stylistic, figurative features of the novels and narratives illustrated by
 the artist are revealed, the visual and expressive means are analyzed (portrait,
 landscape, detail, narrative forms, etc.). Particular attention is paid to the
 peculiarities of small forms of O. Honchar’s journalism, in particular the genre of
 the essay. The problems of the theory of artistic and non-fiction genres are
 emphasized. It is proved that the peculiarities of genre creation and transformation
 of the genre structure of small epic forms into O. Honchar’s works were conditioned
 by the emergence of new themes that actualized national, social, moral and ethical,
 aesthetic problems of society, which required adequate form and means of artistic
 embodiment. It is established that O. Honchar, in small prose, adhered to the
 principles of realism, romanticism, psychologism, documentalism and focused on
 the writing tradition of the late XIX - early XX centuries with a peculiar narrative
 and, at the same time, entered the confluence of European and world literatures
 with their inherently narrative experimentation.
