У статті на основі документальних джерел розглянуто історію Глухівської міської в’язниці XVIII ст.: джерела фінансування,
 умови утримання арештантів, втечі. Стаття доповнена документами з фонду Генеральної військової канцелярії. The article is devoted to the history of the Hlukhiv city prison in
 the XVIII century. This topic has already attracted the attention of
 Soviet, Russian and Ukrainian historians, namely the history of the
 prison building. However, there are still many unexplored issues. The
 purpose of this study: on the basis of documents of the General Military
 Chancellery (GVK) and materials of other funds of the Central Historical
 Archive of Ukraine in Kyiv (TsDIAK) to study the history of an integral
 part of the life of any big city that makes up the state judicial system - an
 18th-century prison. The article discusses the sources of financing, the
 conditions of the detention of prisoners, torture during interrogations
 and escapes from the Hlikhiv prison.
