Мемуари, написані самобутнім автором, зіставлено з документальними архівними джерелами та спогадами про ті часи інших мешканців. Описово викладений етнографічний матеріал розширить базу краєзнавчих досліджень. Перелік прізвищ, родин – мешканців прилеглих хуторів, сіл, селищ, містечок – доповнить теку генеалогічних розвідок. Подання географічного опису краю, згадані кліматичні умови збагатять не лише уяву читача, а й дадуть імпульс для нових спостережень фахівцям природничих наук. Події та факти, викладені у працях Г.Т. Сірика, відкривають замовчувану та призабуту історію Глухівщини, що надихає на нові пошуки відповідей до низки питань періоду становлення радянської влади в Україні. In this publication, for the first time, an attempt is made to analyze the events that took place in the Hlukhiv region in the 1920-s–1940-s using the autographic works of Hryhoii Siryk (1918 –2002), a Ukrainian writer in exile. In 1943 the author lived in the vicinity of the present-day Voronezh. He is well familiar with the then life and mood in society, which took place on the border area of three districts – Krolevetskyi, Hlukhivskyi, Shostkinskyi. He witnessed the events of that time, namely: dispossession of kulaks, collectivization, Holodomor, the export of the Ukrainian people from Western Ukraine to forced labor in 1939. The works of the author Siryk are of interest, as they contain messages that can be used in research: 12 parts of the book « Under the sun of the dispossessed » (1975–1989) collection « Voronezh and its environs»; review of the encyclopedic publication «History of cities and villages of the Ukrainian SSR ... Sumy region» (1973) with the prophetic name « Facts and events for the future history of Sivershchina»(1975, 1993); « Board of Glory» (1994); «This is my fate» (2000); «Nikita, the first street child of Krolevets» (2001 ); «The dun horse is my brother» (1999), etc. The author’s stories were published in the Ukrainian-language press in Canada. Memoirs of Hryhorii Siryk are compared with archival documents, literary sources, memories of those times of other residents of the area. The ethnographic material presented in the descriptions will expand the base of regional studies. The list of surnames, families – residents of nearby farms, villages, townships, cities will supplement the folder of genealogical research. The presented geographical description of the region, the mentioned climatic conditions, will enrich not only the imagination of the reader, but will also give impetus for new observations to specialists in natural sciences. Events and facts stated in the works of H.T. Siryk open the hushed up and half-forgotten history of Hlukhivshchina.
