The results of the theoretical study of the main ideological concepts of the
Russian community of Western Ukraine, which were set out in the newspaper articles
of “The Russian newsletter” during the period from 2004 to 2012 are presented. The
main aim of this article is to examine the idealogical concepts of researching
newspaper. Such methods of scientific research as analysis, synthesis, comparison,
systematization, content analysis are applied in it. In this article both the
historiography of the problem and such newspaper of the Russians of Lviv as “The
Russian Newsletter” are analyzed. The main approaches for defining of notions
“ethnic Russians”, “Russian citizens”, “the Russian land”, “the Russian world” and
“the Russian idea” that are used in publications of investigating edition are
researched. The problem of investigating newpaper’s visions of Russian history,
modernity and future are also considered. It is shown that there are a lot of cultural
societies which were founded by local Russian activists in Western Ukraine. The
primary purposes of functioning of these organizations were supporting the mutual
communication between their members as well as preserving their native ethnic
identity. At the same time, it is stated that some of press of such Russian communities
became peculiar fields for spreading both the pro-Russian ideological conceptions
concerning problem of Russian national self-expression and the visions of Russia’s
past, contemporaneity and future times. It is revealed that the portion of such
information materials is dangerous for Ukrainian National Security and may be
harmful for this country. In conclusion, it is emphasized that there is propagation of
the neo-imperial ideas and myths on pages of “The Russian newsletter” and only
strong positions of contemporary European countries can turn these thoughts which
recall both the Imperial and the Soviet periods, into unrealized historiosophical
declarations of the beginning of the 21st century.
