This article analyzes issues related to: (1) the role of a titular nation’s language as a factor of state building; (2) the definition of this language as a common natural right of individuals who identify themselves with the same-language ethnic group; (3) the status and role of a state language and their difference from the status and role of an official language as well as from the status and role of national minority languages; (4) the possibility of using protective measures by the state to enhance the status of a state language in public life especially in the post-colonial countries. uk Інститут мовознавства ім.
