The article is dedicated to the analysis of the consequences of the language policy implementation in Ukraine on the basis of the sociological researches conducted in 2001-2012 in Kiev. The study has covered issues on the use of the two most widely spoken languages in the capital: Ukrainian and Russian, recognition either of two languages as native, the idea of the status of both languages and possible consequences of its changes. Sociological studies of the public opinion of the residents of Kyiv went to show that in 2012 there was a substantial reduction of the part of the Kyivites, who conceive state language policy to support and stimulate functioning of the Ukrainian language. Reduction has also taken place among the Kyivites, who consider either Ukrainian or Russian to be their native with an increase of those who consider both languages to be their native. At the same time, a part of the Kyivites, who in everyday life communicate in Russian has fallen off to one-fifth while that in Ukrainian has shown an increase.
