У пропонованій статті досліджуються меронімічні відношення (відношення між частиною та цілим) у німецькій та англійській мовах. Значну увагу приділено кореляціям між структурною та семантичною організацією меронімів (позначень частин цілого), закономірностям їхнього семантичного розвитку. Висвітлено особливості катетеризації відношень між частиною та цілим носіями досліджуваних мов, визначено основні принципи формування меронімії, її вирізнення з-поміж інших видів семантичних зв’язків у лексичній системі мови. This paper dwells upon the meronymic relations (Part-Whole relations) in English and German. The research highlights the interdependences between the structural and semantic peculiarities of meronyms (nouns denoting parts), traces the regularities of their semantic development. The categorization of the Part-Whole relations by the native speakers of the languages under analysis has been researched. The ways of the meronymic relations formation and their separation from other types of semantic relations in the lexical system have been revealed. The combinations of the semantic markers, identifying the whole, the polysemy development of meronyms by means of the metaphoric and metonymic transference have been singled out.
