The article explores the essential features of the private correspondence of the 16-17th centuries.
Epistolary communication in general is contrasted to direct communication in terms of medium
(oral / written) and at the same time is very closely connected to it because it is a communication
between two correspondents. Epistolary texts are profoundly heterogeneous in terms
of functionality: the creation of a letter is induced by various intentions of the author; the message
itself can reflect a variety of situations of interpersonal communication.
