У статті проаналізовано похідні значення прислівників з первинним значенням «так» у низці індоєвропейських мов, встановлено специфічні риси семантичного розвитку цих одиниць і обґрунтовано зв’язок цих рис із семіотичною природою вказівних займенників як індексальних знаків, еквівалентних вказівному жесту, вживаному в контексті прототипової когнітивно-комунікативної ситуації.
