Digital Library of Periodicals of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine| Summary: | The article discusses the role of Borys Hrinchenko’s seminal lexicographic work, Slovar ukrainskoi movy (A Dictionary of Ukrainian), in the establishment of the Ukrainian lexicographic tradition. The author argues that scrupulous attention to attesting linguistic usage is an outstanding feature of the dictionary in question which lends it authority and sets it up as a model to be emulated by subsequent generations of Ukrainian lexicographers. The publication of Hrinchenko’s lexicographic masterpiece online as one of the key reference resources at r2u.org.ua has opened new opportunities before ordinary users and researchers alike: from full-text search to new uses of the available dictionaries to new kinds of lexical and lexicographical research.
