Description
Summary:In communication I published in «Zoological Record» No. 6, 1967 as well as in communication II the data are presented on the fauna of snipe Mallophaga which were found in P963-1966 on the left-bank steppe zone of the Ukraine. 339 specimens of 27 snipe species were investigated, 8 of them nesting in the steppe and 19—flying by. 68 species of Mallophaga were found to be the specific parasites of the snipe order (24 species of Amblycera and 44 species of Ischnocera). Extensiveness of the snipe infection with Mallophaga is 89.9 p. c., an average intensity of infection is 25.3 of specimens. 41 species of Mallophaga out of 68 found in the steppe are new for the Ukrainian fauna and 19 species are registrated for the first time in the USSR fauna (of Amblycera suborder — Actornithophilus bicolor, A. paludosus, A. sedes, Austromenopon aegialitidis, A. haematopi, A. himantopi, A. spenceri; of Ischnocera suborder — Cirrophthirius recurvi-rostrae, Lunaceps actophilus, L. falcinellus, L. incoenis, Quadraceps assimilis macroce-phalus, Q. charadrii, Q. charadrii hospes, Q. fissus, Saemundssonia conica, S. kratochvili, S. scolopacisphaeopodis platygaster, S. tringae). For the Northern area of the Black Sea the data on the fauna of Mallophaga of snipes are published for the first time.
