So, taxonomy of the genus may be represented as follows: Palearctic vipers — Echis multisquamatus, E. s. sochureki, E. s. astolae, E. coloratus; Indian — E. c. carinatus, E. c. sinhaleyus; African — E. p. pyramidum, E. p. leakeyi, E. p. aliaborri, E. ocellatus, E. leucogaster.
