It multiplies greatly on different species of sorrel (in the low-lying regions more often on Rumex confertus Willd., in the Carpathianson R. alpinus L.) and only seldom it feeds on plants of other Polygonaceae genera.
A female lays from 130 to 1200 eggs, in the Carpathians to 1600 eggs. Three-four generations a year usually develop in the low-lying regions and two generations - in the mountain regions.
Taking into account an ever- increasing area of distribution of the species, its high fecundity and adaptability to the environment, this beetle should be considered a dangerous pest of field and vegetable crops.
