Description
Summary:Gastrophysa viridula De Geer is distributed almost in the whole territory of the Ukraine, except for the most southern regions. It multiplies greatly on different species of sorrel (in the low-lying regions more often on Rumex confertus Willd., in the Carpathianson R. alpinus L.) and only seldom it feeds on plants of other Polygonaceae genera. A female lays from 130 to 1200 eggs, in the Carpathians to 1600 eggs. Three-four generations a year usually develop in the low-lying regions and two generations - in the mountain regions. Taking into account an ever- increasing area of distribution of the species, its high fecundity and adaptability to the environment, this beetle should be considered a dangerous pest of field and vegetable crops.
