Категорії мілітарного та сакрального тісно переплетені в європейській і руській середньовічній свідомості. У статті розглянуто виміри функціонування військового дискурсу в Києво-Печерському патерику. Здійснено текстуальний аналіз мілітарної образності, порушено питання про її
 джерела та мету її використання в агіографічному тексті. Мотив небесного покровительства під
 час битви та прохання до Печерської Богородиці про опіку розглянуто в контексті старокиївського культу Богородиці Заступниці. Проаналізовано трактування концепту militia Dei в агіографічних сюжетах та тлі традиції вшанування перших святих як мучеників, а не воїнів. Висловлено спостереження щодо руського відповідника західноєвропейських тенденцій мілітаризації християнства та християнізації війни в Середньовіччі. Суттєву частину військового дискурсу в патерикових
 сюжетах становить метафізична боротьба із силами зла, описана в категоріях збройного протистояння ворогові-дияволу. Осібним епізодом цієї боротьби є протистояння спокусі, втіленій в особі
 жінки. Тож окрему увагу приділено гендерному аспекту боротьби та зіставленню романтики й баталістики в біблійних, західноєвропейських лицарських та руських агіографічних сюжетах. На підставі аналізу згадок батальних сцен та військових понять у Патерику зроблено висновок про вагомість мілітарного дискурсу для укладачів тексту. The categories of military and sacred are closely related in medieval European and Russ worldview.
 The article performs the functioning of the military discourse in the Pateryk of the Kyiv Caves Monastery.
 A textual analysis of military imagery is made, the question of its sources and the purpose of its use in the
 hagiographic text is discussed. The motives of heavenly intercession in the battle and the request to the
 Mother of God of Pechersk for protection are considered in the context of the Kyiv’s cult of the Mother of
 God the Intercessor. The author analyzes the interpretation of the concept of militia Dei in hagiographic
 plots and the tradition of honoring the first saints as martyrs, not warriors. Observations are made about
 the Russ counterpart of the Western European tendencies of the militarization of Christianity and the christianization
 of war in the Middle Ages. An essential part of the military discourse in the Pateryk is the metaphysical
 struggle with the forces of evil, described in the categories of armed confrontation with the enemy-
 devil. A particular episode of this fight is the confrontation with the temptation embodied in the person
 of a woman. Therefore, special attention is paid to the gender aspect of the struggle and to the comparison
 of romance and battle in biblical, Western European chivalric and Russ hagiographical plots. The author
 revises the battle scenes and military concepts in the Pateryk and comes to the conclusion on the importance
 of military discourse for the compilers of the text.
