Un questionnement s’est fait jour sur la simple possibilité d’une représentation naturelle d’une identité évidente. Ils ont été traversés par la question du marché, non pas celui de l’art, mais celui du tourisme. Ils ont été portés, bon gré mal gre, sinon instrumentalisés par les problématiques de développement local. Au terme d’une sorte de révolution copernicienne, l’objet a perdu sa place centrale au profit du public et du projet culturel. Dans un contexte national où les liens avec la recherche sont souvent distendus, on assiste à une reconnaissance d’une spécificité du musée, de son espace et de ses modes d’expression. Mais la question des modalités de l’appropriation réelle de ce patrimoine demeure irrésolue. Highly exposed and put to the test of reality, continuously questioned as to their nature and "raisons d’etre", society museums have modified their practice and approach during the past twentyVfive years. Questioning arose as to the possibility of representing their identity. Publik museums had to face the market problem, not that of art, but that of tourism. WillyVnilly they have been supported, if not utilized, by the problematic of local development. According to Copernican revolution the object has lost its central place on behalf of the public and of the cultural project. In a national context of frequently distended bonds with research, the specificity of the museum, of its space and modes of expression is recognized.
