In the interview of Christian Bromberge and Mirielle Meye with Maurice Agulhon regional problems of contemporary France were discussed. The questions of dialectical connection between regional and national selfVconsciousness, the existence of two types of French patriotism, the fight and evolution of the centre of regional uniqueness ranging from regional Provence idea to separatism, the problem of regional cultures, language problems, devotion to traditions as a display of regional belonging were of the scholars’ particular interest.
