The article analyzes the formation and development of the local history movement in the Uman region in the context of socio-political processes of the 1920s, traces the development of researchresearch and educational forms of local history work, and focuses attention on the content of local history activity. It was found that local history museums were the main centers of the development of local history and the involvement of representatives of various layers of the public in it.
The participants of the local history movement were mostly educators as representatives of the most massive stratum of the local intelligentsia. As for the content of local history work, archaeological and ethnographic explorations prevailed. It is noted that the decline of the local history movement began in the late 1920s. In the conditions of the establishment of the totalitarian regime, local historians of the Uman region suffered repression, and local history faded away for many years.
