Description
Summary:A traditional Israeli-Arab Muslim wedding is a singular and complex ceremony most autors described in research as it was 50 years ago. During the last two decades it has undergone extreme changes, and produced two new kinds of wedding rituals: 'modern' and 'religious'. The aim of this paper is to clarify the different stages, customs, symbolism and folk-literature, accompanying each of these three wedding ceremonies. I hope that recognizing the transformations in both practice and songs in recent years, will also contribute something to our better understanding of the various trends in Arabic-Muslim society living in Israel today.
