The study of morphological features of the frustule of Stephanodiscus inconspicuus Makarova et Pomazkina emend. Genkal, Kuzmina et Popovskaya (Bacillariophyta) revealed significant variability in the species and has linked them synonymously to Crateriportula inconspicuus (Makarova et Pomazkina) Flower et Håkansson.
