В течение 1995–1997 гг. в заповеднике «Аскания-Нова» изучали сроки половой активности и особенности поведения лани (Dama dama Linnaeus). Установлено, что начало проявления половой активности у самцов происходит в первой половине октября, гон и спаривания животных — 2–3 недели спустя. Снижение их половой активности происходит постепенно, начиная со второй половины ноября. Специфика репродуктивного поведения лани в неволе заключается в том, что самцы не проявляют инстиныкта территориальности (как это происходит в естественных условиях), а разыскивают группы самок и присоединяются к ним, образуя гаремы, что можно рассматривать как адаптацию к условиям среды и содержания (ограниченная площадь загонов, высокая плотность их заселения, открытость биотопа и т. п.).
Periods of sexual activity and the behavior peculiarities of fallow-deer (Dama dama Linnaeus) have been investigated in the “Ascania Nova” Reserve during 1995–1997 years. It is found out that the beginning of manifestation of sexual activity of the males of fallow-deer is marked in the first half of October, and heat and coupling — two or three weeks later. Decrease of their sexual activity passes gradually, starting with the second half of November. Peculiarity of the sexual behavior of fallow-deer lies in what the males do not show the instinct of territory (as it happens under the natural conditions) and look for groups of the females and join them, forming harems. This is assumed to be an adaptation to the maintenance conditions, namely: scantiness of square of the enclosures, high density of occupancy of the enclosures, open nature of the biotope).
