It is considered that as a preventive measure to preserve documents with impaired material basis shall be the storage of them in micro-climate containers made of acid-free paperboard. Such technique of preservation of library funds is known as a phase conservation. One of the most famous scientists-experts in the field of phase conservation is Peter Waters – conservative by vocation and patriot of library science. His personal practical experience in book framing, participation in liquidation of accident consequences during flooding in Florence in 1966 and unselfish assistance in elimination of the results of tragedy in the Library of the Academy of Sciences of USSR in Leningrad in 1988 in combination with analytic minding became the ground for expressing opinions and judgements on conservation and preservation of documents on paper base.
Scientific works of Doctor Peter Waters translated by employees of the Library of the
Academy of Sciences of Russia are of great value for conservatives and restorers of library and archive funds.
