Summary:The article commemorates a great Ukrainian artist, ethnographer and folklorist Porfyriy Martynovych (1856-1933). His archive is kept in the Scientific manuscript and phonorecords archive, Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, folklore and Ethnology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (f. 11, 1415 art.). The scholar gathered a great number of folkloristic materials, including various songs, religious folklore, and different prose genres. Special concern was given to customs and lile of folk singers. Besides, a great epistolary heritage is kept in the archive. Porfyriy Martynovych's correspondence includes letters from outstanding people of his time (V. Antonovych, M. Lysenko, D. Yavornytsky, etc.). The letters from M. and K. Grushevsky are of special interest as touching upon the topic of folk singers (kobzari and lirnyky). The following letters and some remarks on them are included in the article.
