Šio tikslo siekiama analizuojant atvaizdų vietą ir prasmę šiandieniniame žmonių gyvenime. Atskleidžiant funkcijų tradicijas ir inovacijas, remiamasi palyginamąja XX a. I pusės medžiaga.
