Рostoje neke jedinice teksta priče koje tu istinitost ili vjerovanje u istinitost pokazuju ili kojima je funkcija da je ostvaruju. Te jedinice teksta nazvat ću formulama vjerodostojnosti i pokušati objasniti opravdanost tog termina, razlučiti koje se to vrste formula vjerodostojnosti upotrebljavaju, kako ih pripovjedači i pripovjedačice oblikuju te kako ostvaruju svoju funkciju uvjeravanja.
