С уменьшением числа используемых признаков точность идентификации несколько снижается. По одонтометрическим признакам наиболее сходны S. uralensis и S. arianus. S. sylvaticus отличается от этих двух видов несколько больше, чем они друг от друга, а S. flavicollis является наиболее своеобразным видом. Предложены алгоритмы определения видовой принадлежности по различным комбинациям признаков. Они могут быть использованы для анализа ископаемого материала, а также содержимого погадок птиц и экскрементов хищных млекопитающих. Techniques for identifying 4 species of Sylvaemus genus from Ukraine fauna have been developed as a result of multiple investigation of molar variation. Species belonging of nearly 80% specimens from pooled sample can be reliably defined using a total set of dental measurements under study. The accuracy of identification is somewhat reduced with lessening a number of characters used for identification. S. uralensis and S. arianus are the most similar with their odontometric characters. S. sylvaticus differs from these two species a little bit more, than they differ from each other, and S. flavicollis is the most original species. The algorithms of species definition using various combinations of characters are offered.
