New Records of the Hover-Flies (Diptera, Syrphidae) from Crimea and Ukraine [Íîâûå äëÿ Êðûìà
è Óêðàèíû íàõîäêè ìóõ-æóð÷àëîê (Diptera, Syrphidae)]. — The hover-fly fauna of Crimea was con-
sidered rather well examined (Popov, 1997, Khark. Ent. Soc. Gaz. 5(2): 29–38; 1998, ibid., 6(2):
57–69; 2000, Vestn. zoologii, 34 (3): 99–102; 2003, Hover-flies (Diptera, Syrphidae) of the Crimean
Peninsula (fauna, ranges, biotopic distribution, conservation). Ph. D. Thesis, Kyiv: 627 p.; Barkalov,
Popov, 2000, Vestn. zoologii, 34 (4–5): 115–118). Surprisingly, six additional species were collect-
ed in Crimea. Simosyrphus scutellaris (Fabricius, 1805) previously known for Southern Palaearctic
Region from Turkey to Japan (Peck, 1988, Catalogue of Palaearctic Diptera, Budapest: 11–230) was
collected in Western Crimea, Tarkhankut Peninsula, Olenivka, 6.09.2007, 1 } (Mielczarek). The
genus Simosyrphus Bigot, 1882 (= Ischiodon auctt.) (see La ´ska et al., 2006, Europ. J. Ent., 103 (3):
637–655, for synonymy) is recorded from the mainland Europe for the first time. Xanthogramma
stackelbergi Violovitsh, 1975: Mountain Crimea, Bakhchisaray, 8.07.2009, 1 { (Mielczarek), a poor-
ly known European species (Violovich, 1975, The New and Little-known Species of Fauna of Siberia.
Novosibirsk, 9: 90–106; Kuznetzov, Kuznetzova, 1996, Int. J. Dipterol. Res. 7 (2): 87–93; etc.). Also
all Crimean and most South Eastern Ukraine specimens of "Xanthogramma pedissequum" collected by
G. V. Popov and Yu. A. Abalyosheva (Popov, 1994, Khark. Ent. Soc. Gaz. 2 (2): 42–82; 2003;
Popov, Usova, Abalyosheva, 2001 (2002), ibid. 9 (1–2): 171–184) are X. stackelbergi. A subtropical
species previously known from Southern Europe from France to Bulgaria and Romania, Azerbaijan
(ssp. caucasicus Kuznetzov, 2002) and Turkey (Speight, 1988, Bull. Soc. ent. France, 92 (5–6):
193–200; Dirickx, 1994, Atlas des Dipte `res syrphides de la re ´gion me´diterrane´enne, Brussel: 1–317;
Kuznetzov, 2002, Int. J. Dipt. Res., 13 (4): 259–273), Doros destillatorius Mik, 1885: Southern Coast
of Crimea, Mys Martyan Nature Reserve, 11.06.1979, 1 } (Eldeiberg) (I. V. Maltsev collection,
Odessa Zoo). Another species previously known only from Greece, Bulgaria and Romania (Peck,
ibid.; Dirickx, ibid.), Merodon chalybeatus Sack, 1913: Crimea, Kerch Peninsula, Opuk Nature
Reserve, 14.08.2002, 1 { (Filatov) (coll. Kharkiv Branch of the Ukrainian Entomological Society).
All these species are recorded for the first time from Ukraine. Scaeva albomaculata (Macquart, 1842):
Mountain Crimea, Nizhnyaya Kutuzovka, 5.07.2009, 1 } (Mielczarek) and Neoascia interrupta
(Meigen, 1822): Tarkhankut Peninsula, Olenivka, 3.09.2007, 1 } (Mielczarek), previously known
from the mainland Ukraine (Lezhenina, 1993, Khark. Ent. Soc. Gaz. 1 (1): 59–65) are recorded
from Crimea for the first time. The Crimean fauna includes 195 species of Syrphidae nowadays. —
