A new species of a small-sized muridae lineage of the genus Apodemus Kaup, 1829, Apodemus alae Nesin, sp. n., from the Late Miocene localities of southern Ukraine is described. Its small sizes differ it from the majority of Late Miocene muridae of the genus Apodemus, A. alae sp. n. Its evolutionary tendencies in tooth morphology differ it from the similar small-sized species. The upper molars M1—2 are characterized by strong development of a crest between t4 and t8, whereas less than 50% of the specimens have poorly developed t7. Furthermore, approximately 20% of the lower m1 specimens is characterized by the absence of tma.
