В статье рассмотрен вопрос благотворительной деятельности населения Черниговской губернии во время русско-турецкой войны 1877–1878 гг. Дана характеристика участию черниговцев в сборе денежных пожертвований, сдаче продуктов,
лошадей в пользу действующей армии, организация благотворительных мероприятий.
Проанализированы изменения в жизни населения Черниговской губернии, связанные с военными действиями на Балканах.
The complex studying of Russo-Turkish war 1877–1878 proposes the analysis the influence
of this international conflict on political, economic, social and cultural development of
the countries which took part in it. This topic hasn’t found enough explaining in the historiography.
The importance of this research is caused by the necessity to deepen investigations
of the military conflict using regional materials and documents.
This paper focuses on the problem of charitable activity the population of Chernihiv
province. The participation of Chernihiv natives in making provision with gathering cash
donations, to delivery products, horses in favor of field army, organizing the charitable events
are characterized.
The charity developed according to the society rules. Authorities tended to control and
stimulate it. The list of regional newspapers reported about different sides of social life. The
most necessary direction of charitable activity during the war is the support of victims after
military operations. The war as the biggest misfortune for human civilization had caused the
sharp increasing donations to the army and members of soldiers’ families, people who had
been suffered in battles. The article allows to characterize the participation of Chernihiv
province’s inhabitants, it’s charitable activity in Russo-Turkish war of 1877–1878 in providing
the army transition through the territory of province, collecting material and financial
donations, organizing the system of hospitals.
The Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 wasn’t a military campaign to the independence of
Slavic nations. It was a redistribution the spheres of influence and the division of weakened
Ottoman Empire. Although the goal of Russian Empire was to help to the brotherly Slavic nations
but it took part in the war for own benefit and encouragement to participate in military
events of all levels strata of the population, including residents of Chernihiv province. The
charity of Chirnihiv natives had different directions, was quite large and include all spheres
of human life.
